Resistivity of Rocks

چکیده

A brief summary of the importance of the electrical resistivity of rocks in geothermal exploration is given as well as some of its is main relationships with some of the characteristics of geothermal reservoirs. Special emphasis is on the resistivity of rocks in high temperature geothermal fields where the dominant factor is the hydrothermal mineral alteration and how it relates to temperature. This review is to a great extent based on experience and work done through the years by Iceland GeoSurvey and its predecessor the NEA. In this review it should be pointed out that an overview of geophysical exploration for geothermal resources was given in a UNU GTP publication (Hersir and Björnsson, 1991). Other important sources here are two more recent articles from the World Geothermal Congresses (Árnason et. al., 2000 and Flóvenz et al., 2005).

Structural imaging in the Rocky Mountain Foothills (Alberta) using magnetotelluric exploration

The magnetotelluric method has improved significantly in recent years and is being used in hydrocarbon exploration in regions where seismic exploration is difficult. This includes areas where highvelocity carbonates and volcanic rocks are present in the near surface, overthrust belts, and in subsalt imaging. Magnetotelluric exploration was used in the Rocky Mountain Foothills in 2002 to determi...

Experimental Study of Induced Polarization Effect in Unconventional Reservoir Rocks

Unconventional hydrocarbon reserves substantially surpass those of conventional resources and therefore are extremely economically attractive. However, exploration and production of unconventional reserves is challenging. This paper demonstrates that one can observe significant induced polarization effects in shale reservoir rocks, which can be used in exploration for unconventional reserves. T...

Geothermal Potential Assesment of Way Ratai Area Based on Thermal Conductivity Measurement to Measure Thermal Properties of Rocks

Thermal conductivity measurements have been used for the Way Ratai geothermal prospect area. The thermal conductivity method is used to evaluate the ability of a rock to deliver heat by conduction. In the area, many surface manifestations are scattered in various regions, where hot springs dominate these various manifestations. The thermal conductivity mapping of rocks is carried out around geo...

Transient Electromagnetic Resistivity Survey at the Geysir Geothermal Field South Iceland

A central loop Transient Electromagnetic TEM Resistivity Survey was conducted at the Geysir high temperature geothermal area as part the project of the author. The area is situated 110 km away from Reykjavik and lies in a shallow valley elongated north-south. Geologically it is surrounded by three volcanic domes made-up of rhyolites, hyloclastites and inter-glacial basaltic lava that obtain hea...

Application of multifractal modeling for separation of sulfidic mineralized zones based on induced polarization and resistivity data in the Ghare-Tappeh Cu deposit, NW Iran

The aim of this study was to identify various sulfidic mineralized zones in the Ghare-Tappeh Cu deposit (NW Iran) based on geo-electrical data including induced polarization (IP) and resistivity (RS) using the concentration-volume (C-V) and number-size (N-S) fractal models. The fractal models were used to separate high and moderate sulfidic zones from low sulfidic zones and barren wall rocks. B...
